Project Case Study

Custora

Custora is a custom analytics platform for client websites — pageviews, visitors, click tracking, and ad spend in one dashboard built for navigation instead of configuration.

Overview

Custora is a purpose-built analytics platform for the client sites I ship. It tracks pageviews, visitors, clicks, form submissions, and ad spend — then presents them in a dashboard designed around the questions a business owner actually asks, not the ones an analytics vendor decided to answer.

The Problem

Google Analytics is powerful and almost unusable for the people who need it most. A local service business wants three things: how many people came, what they clicked, and whether the ads are worth it. GA4 buries those behind explorations, custom reports, and a navigation model that assumes a dedicated analyst. Clients would open it once, get lost, and never return — so the data may as well not exist.

The second problem is that generic analytics doesn't know the business. A plumbing site's most important event is a WhatsApp tap or a call button, not a scroll depth percentile. Off-the-shelf tools can be bent to track that, but only through setup work no client will maintain.

The Solution

Custora narrows the surface deliberately. The sidebar is short and the hierarchy is flat: Insights (Overview, Events, Click tracking, Ad spend), Reports (Contacts, Deals), Setup (Installation, Integrations, Settings). Every screen answers a question outright rather than offering to help you build a report that might.

Because it's custom, the event model matches the work. Pageview, click, form submit, identify, and custom events are first-class — so a WhatsApp click on a client's landing page is a tracked, named, chartable thing on day one, not a tagging project.

Why Custora

  • Navigable: A handful of screens with obvious names, instead of a report builder.
  • Relevant: Event types shaped around service-business conversions — calls, WhatsApp taps, form submits.
  • Complete: Traffic and ad spend sit in the same tool, so cost-per-result doesn't require stitching two dashboards together.
  • Connected: Contacts and deals flow through from the CRM, linking a click to the lead it actually produced.

How It Works

  1. Install Drop in a single snippet. Pageviews and standard events start flowing immediately, with no tag manager in between.
  2. Watch the stream The Events view shows a live feed — event type, person, path, device, location, and recency — over a stacked activity chart that breaks traffic down by event type across a chosen window.
  3. Track what converts Click tracking isolates the interactions that matter, so a WhatsApp tap is measured with the same weight as a page load.
  4. Tie it to spend Ad spend pulls campaign cost alongside the traffic it generated, turning "we're running ads" into a number per result.
  5. Follow it to revenue Contacts and deals close the loop between anonymous traffic and the leads and jobs that came out of it.

Outcome

Custora replaces a dashboard clients wouldn't open with one they will. Every site I ship gets analytics its owner can actually read — traffic, conversions, and ad efficiency in one place, without a single custom report to configure.
